Description
One of the results of globalization has been growing prevalence of international sex tourism, creating a diverse market for "exotic" sex. From Grand Tours to gay cruises, travel has provided a means for middle and upper class Europeans and North Americans to realize sexual fantasies that hinge on the racialization and exoticization of people in the Global South, while simultaneously generating new patterns of labor migration. In focusing on both individual encounters and broader patterns, this course will examine the intersections of race and sex, sex work as a form of labor, and how the pursuit of sex and work can move populations.
