Course Title
Introduction to Music Technology
Department(s)
Description
An introduction to basic music technology skills: music notation software, MIDI sequencing, and digital audio editing. This course will introduce students to the three ways in which new computer software is used to aid contemporary musicians: to compose and engrave music; to play and record MIDI instruments, such as synthesizers; and to record and edit digital audio. Although this is a practical, 'hands on' course, it will also cover the basic ideas necessary to understand these tools: the principles of music notation; acoustics and the physical nature of sound; and copyright issues.
