3D Virtual Environments
Catalog Description
This production course is an introduction to the fundamentals of 3D computer graphics. In this project-based class, students will learn how to construct 3D virtual environments using the software Autodesk Maya and Substance Painter with hands-on and in-class exercises, including modeling 3D assets, lighting and shading 3D models, applying custom textures and visual effects, and rendering of final images. They will also consider 3D computer graphic imagery within a broader artistic context, learn from the practices of contemporary artists and storytellers, and be encouraged to think critically and conceptually. By the end of the course, students will have the foundational skills to construct 3D virtual environments and will be able to begin building a portfolio with 3D computer graphic work.
