Churchill's Britain
Catalog Description
This course looks at the history of Britain and its empire in the 20th century. The emphasis will be on the world wars and their impact on British military and diplomatic power, and thus on the spread of British imperial rule up to the 1920s, as well as on the changes the wars brought to the British economy, society and culture and, ultimately, the collapse of the empire after 1945. The major theme of the course will be how to understand Britain's 'decline' in the 20th century.
