Description

The women, peace and security (WPS) agenda has been on the UN Security Council’s agenda for almost 20 years now, framing the international community’s understanding of gender and rights. Based on principles that women have the right to participate in efforts to end conflict, and have the right to be protected from the violence that is part of conflict, has informed the now 10 UNSC resolutions on the topic. This course will utilize country-specific examples to examine progress on women’s rights and gender equality in the context of conflict prevention and resolution, with particular attention to the existing and developing normative framework that addresses these issues.
