Catalog Description
The course is a comparative study of cultural, political, and historical aspects of Russian, Polish, Czechoslovakian, Romanian, and East German cinema as a visual art form. The course examines samples of East European cinema addressing a respective country's history and social conditions starting with World War II time and covering both the Communist era and post-Communist period. By the end of the course, students will acquire critical tools to provide an informed verbal and written analysis of East European films as cultural texts.
