Introduction to Gender and Sexuality Studies
Department(s)
Description
The course will introduce students to the political and theoretical debates in the discipline of gender and sexuality. We
will cover historical struggles for the women's enfranchisement, the abolitionist movements, sex wars, and the queer
rights movement. The course introduces students to feminist contribution to the debate that considers sex as biology
and gender as culture, critical race theory, and queer theory. In addition, the course will also deal with structural and
institutional forms of disenfranchisement by examining the relationship between gender and the state, colonialism, law
and capital.
