Globalization and Cities
Department(s)
Description
This course will introduce students to the study of the cultural and political production of cities through a series of compelling case studies. The Euro- American greats will be introduced in the first part of the course so that we may establish an understanding of what are considered as developed or first world cities. Quite intentionally, the course will then shift to pursue a discovery of the cities of the developing world or third world. This critique will focus not only on the city itself but also the very dichotomy between developed and developing cities, all in the intention of destabilizing the distinction between first and third worlds.
